Girdle is basically finished

I just need a hook so its easier to take on and off and its done.  To make it completely complete, it would be nice to find a pomander or a tassel or something for the end, but I can wait until I run across the perfect thing.  So I guess its mostly done.

Actually, there's one more step I would like to do, but I'm not sure I'm up to it..  I am a little worried the jump rings will gap because the girdle is pretty heavy and I'm considering soldering them closed.  I have a multi-tool that I use for pyrography that can be used as a soldering iron but I've never tried it.  I'm a little nervous about it.  But, I really don't want to have to constantly reassemble the girdle when something decides to fall apart.  I'd much rather have it super sturdy so I don't have to worry.  Guess I'm going to let that brew a little bit.  I've been working on this pretty solidly for a couple of days since there was a lot to assemble and I'm ready to put it aside and declare  another wearable item,  Technically done is something. right?

  1. I had a girdle belt that kept pulling apart and ended up soldering all the links... and mine wasn't particularly heavy. It utilized acrylic cabochons and was really quite light. If you get a chance, I'd highly recommend soldering - you don't want it to fall apart while you're wearing it. It looks so lovely! Yay for shineys!

  3. oops, sorry Christa, I just saw this. I molded a general head shape out of aluminum foil and then sculpted around it using Sculpy. I placed the embellishments where I wanted them and created an impression in the clay so I could epoxy them on after baking. Mine completely fits over the entire head and is epoxied in place since my zibillino is so large and the bottom is satin lined since it is a complete stole rather than a stole made of individual minks. My zibi is honestly gigantic-- it completely covers my shoulders. The one that I bought from Sable Greyhound is done a bit differently (because Holly is more elegant and practiced than I am.) I think what she did was make a plaster mold of the head of the mink by molding foil and pouring the mold, then covers the mold in Sculpy and does the sculpting on to the form, removes and bakes it and then adds embellishment. Hers have sort of a cut out under the chin which often takes advantage of the clips from the original stole and hers are generally flatter in shape and don't flop around as much as my very heavy sculpting.
